Obituary of Edward L. Schaffer

Edward L Schaffer, 73, of Blue Bell, PA passed away on Friday June 9, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Philadelphia on September 16, 1943 and has lived his whole life in the area. Ed graduated from Olney High School and attended Temple University. He enlisted in the Navy and was based out of Norfolk, VA. He worked as a Weapons Technician on the USS Enterprise and was the last person to arm the weapons on the planes before they were catapulted off the ship. His career path led him to the field of sports marketing and advertising sales where he was an account executive for WPHL Channel 17, General Sales Manager of WGBS channel 57 and rounding out his stellar career as Vice President of Sales and Marketing from Laramie Tire Distributors. He was an avid Eagles fan and could always be found in front of the tv on game days, not letting anyone talk during the game. Because of his strong sports sales career he also closely followed the Phillies as well as most of the other local sports teams. Ed retired in 2001 to enjoy his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Kathy Schaffer, his son David and Monica of Tampa, Florida, daughter Kelly Casale and Ray of East Norriton, and four grandchildren, Raymond, Taylor, Madison and Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Bernice Schaffer. Friends may call on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM with the Memorial Service being held immediately afterwards at the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 19 E. Germantown Pike, East Norriton, PA 19401. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in Ed's name to: Jefferson Health Home Care and Hospice, 1200 Old York Road, Abington, PA, 19001 or the American Cancer Society. Edward has been living in Blue Bell, Pa since 1984, formerly of Plymouth Meeting, Pa and Philadelphia, Pa where he was born and raised. He served in the US Navy. Ed worked as a Sales Manager with Chanel 17 as Local Sales Manager and as General Sales Manager with Channel 57. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles Fan.
