Obituary of Robert H. Wilson, 3rd

Robert H. Wilson 3rd, 88, passed away peacefully on February 8th, 2016 with his loving family at his side in Trappe, PA. A devoted husband and loving father Bob never tired of giving to his family, friends and community. Through his strength, courage and unrelenting optimism, Bob was a role model and inspiration to all that he met. Bob was born on March 4th 1927 in the Wissinoming neighborhood of Philadelphia to the late Robert H. Wilson Jr. and Mary (Broadhead) Wilson. Upon his family relocating to Frankford, Bob graduated from Frankford High School in 1946 where he was an outstanding student-athlete that lettered in varsity baseball. Bob anchored first base and left field and batted third in Frankford's explosive offensive lineup, enjoying many individual and team successes. Bob graduated from Drexel University in 1951 with a Major in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating Drexel University Bob began his stellar career as a mechanical engineer with the Hoffman & Wolfe Co. for seven years. He then moved on to the Rohm & Haas Co, located in Bristol, PA for the next three years. However, his biggest professional break came when Bob left Rohm & Haas and joined the Walter Brother's Construction Company where he spent the next 25 years and held various positions within the company. While working at the Walter Brother's Construction Co., Bob began to hit his stride as an engineer and started to gain individual recognition for his work on several major projects. Because of this recognition, Bob was asked to be part of many high profile projects that were to be developed over the next several years in the Philadelphia area. Bob's biggest challenge and the crowning jewel of his brilliant and amazing career came when he was asked to be part of the One & Two Liberty Place projects. Bob immediately embraced the opportunity not only as a mechanical engineer, but also as one of the lead project managers. Over the years, Bob continued to enjoy a very rewarding career in engineering and he played a key role in many other large and historic development projects in the Philadelphia area. Among some of these projects was the development of City Line Ave. Bob was part of developing the WCAU building, the Lord & Taylor shopping center, along with many of the Bala Plaza office buildings. Bob retired from the Willard Co. in 1988 and along with his wife Ruth relocated to Cocoa Beach, Florida for the next 20 years. Recently, due to health issues, Bob and Ruth relocated to Trappe, Pennsylvania where they lived together with their daughter Robin & their son in law Dave Fetter until Bob's passing. Bob was blessed and had the opportunity to enjoy many accomplishments and milestones in his life. However, Bob was often heard to say, with the utmost of pride, that none of this would ever have been possible without the undying love and support of his wife Ruth Riley Wilson. They met while attending Frankford High School where Bob was a Junior & Ruth was a Senior at the time. During their very first date Bob realized that their lives would never be the same and that they would be forever in twined as a couple. So, for the next seventy plus years they would be virtually inseparable, they enjoyed everything in life together. From the early years of roller skating at the Roller Dome, to the many weekends that they spent together at Somerton Springs dancing the night away in each other's arms. They became somewhat of local celebrities because they were such fantastic dancers. So it wasn't unusual that several times during the evening the other dancers would clear the floor to watch Ruth and Bob dance to the latest hit songs of Frank Sinatra, The Glen Miller Band and others. Bob Wilson was a proud, simple and honest man that loved life. As Bob reflected back on his life, he said out of all of the accomplishments he achieved during his life time, he was the proudest of the amazing relationship, marriage and life that he shared with his beautiful wife Ruth and the love and pride that he had for their children Robert and Robin. Bob is survived by his wife, Ruth Riley Wilson; their two children, Robin Riley Fetter and her husband David Fetter Jr and Robert J. Wilson and his wife Marie Kamper Wilson; four grandchildren, Robert Konzelman, Stephen Konzelman, Emily Wilson and Kyle Wilson; three great grandchildren Aiden Konzelman, Jackson Konzelman and Vivian Konzelman; three nieces and nephews, as well as a loving extended family and dear friends. Relatives and Friends are invited to come celebrate 88 great years on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at his viewing from 2:00 to 3:30 PM, followed by his Funeral Service at 3:30 PM at the Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 224 W. Main St., Trappe, PA 19426 (610) 489-7900. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Einstein Home Health & Hospice, Attn: Hospice, 1330 Powell St. Suite-100, Norristown, PA 19401.
