Obituary of Hugh J. Donlin

Hugh Joseph Donlin, 90, of Norristown, PA passed away on, Saturday August 27, 2016. He was born in Pottsville, PA on March 12, 1926 to the late MaryAnn ( Howarth ) Donlin and Hugh A. Donlin. He was raised in St. Clair, Pa. He enlisted in the US Navy at age 17 serving in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He participated in the Invasion of Normandy and Southern France, Iwo Jimo and Okinawa while serving aboard the USS Tuscaloosa. He received numerous medals for his service including the European Theater Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Philippine Theater Ribbon and a Victory Medal. Following service to his country, he became an Engineering Officer in the Merchant Marines and traveled throughout the world. Later he became a Supervisor in the Engineering Division of Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company where he worked for 33 years. He lived in Lower Providence, Pa and was a faithful member of Visitation B.V.M Church. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernia, Notre Dame Division, the Lower Providence Fireman's Association and VFW Post 7155 in Trappe, Pa. He was a Republican committeeman for many years and served on the Sewer Authority Board. Survivors include his Daughter: Gloria Rivenburg Daughter: Edna Eckert Daughter: Marybeth Hucker Daughter: Eileen Strayline Daughter: Margaret Donaghey 16 Grandchildren 11 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Eleanore ( Cassel ) Donlin, infant son, Anthony, daughter, Monica Johnson and sisters Teresa Donlin and Christina Lewis. His Funeral Mass Service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM from the Visitation B.V.M. RC Church 196 North Trooper Road, Tropper, Pa. Msgr. Thomas A. Murray will be officiating. Friends may call on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the Church. Interment will take place in St. Patrick's Cemetery, East Norriton, Pa Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to: Visitation B.V.M. RC Church, 196 North Trooper Road, Norristown, Pa 19403
