Obituary of Susan J. Spengler

Susan Jennifer Spengler, 52, of Jeffersonville, PA died peacefully in her home with family by her side on Monday, September 16, 2019.

Born December 13, 1966 in York, PA, she was the daughter of Jay and Donna Chestnut of Carlisle, PA.  She was a 1985 graduate of Carlisle Senior High School. She attended Drexel University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics in 1989. She was a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and worked as a registered dietitian for 28 years in hospitals, nursing homes and long-term care facilities. She was a devoted mother to her two daughters and enjoyed spending time with family, baking, reading, and listening to music. She had a lifelong love for dogs and participated in showing her Curly-Coated Retrievers at American Kennel Club competitions.  She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Fairview Village.

Susan is survived by her husband of almost 23 years, Thomas Alan, and daughters, Jacquelyn, 17, and Alyssa, 13; parents, Jay and Donna Chestnut; sister, Michelle Chestnut of Lakeland, FL; brother, William (and wife Sonja) Chestnut of Rockville, MD; one niece, Elena Spengler; and two nephews, Andrew and Lucas Chestnut. She was the daughter-in-law of Earl and Joanne Spengler of Catasauqua, and sister-in-law of Matthew (and wife Sima) Spengler of Center Valley.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 23, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Fairview Village, 1190 Valley Forge Road (Rt. 363), Fairview Village, PA 19409 with Pastor Stacey-Kyle Rea officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. preceding the service.  Inurnment will follow in Trinity’s Memorial Garden.  A luncheon will follow the service. Guests are encouraged to wear blue, Susan’s favorite color.

Because it was Susan’s dream to see her daughters graduate from high school and attend college, a college scholarship fund has been established for them. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Thomas Spengler, designated “Donation Fund” at any Citizens Bank. The family would like to personally thank the Trinity Church Family and others for the many years of continuous support.

Arrangements are being handled by Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
