Obituary of Edward P. McDade

Edward P. McDade, of Trappe, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on December 2, 2023, at the age of 78, following chronic illness related to agent orange exposures during his military service.

 

Edward P. “Ed” McDade was born in Norristown, on August 16, 1945, to the late Edward J and Agnes Rambo McDade.

 

Ed graduated from Bishop Kenrick High School, then volunteered for service in the US Army - Quarter Master Corps in Viet Nam from 1963 to 1966. Upon his return, Ed then started his police career in West Norriton, then served the community of Lower Providence Township for 33 years retiring as Chief of Police, then as a Deputy Coroner for the County of Montgomery for 7 years thereafter.

 

Ed was a proud graduate with a B.S. in Criminal Justice from St. John’s University, US FBI Academy Class 148 in 1987. Former member of Police Chiefs Association of Montgomery County, the Charity Lodge #190 Free & Associated Masons, Valley of Allentown Scottish Rite, Former Commander of Trappe VFW Post 7155, Trappe Borough Councilman, and a member of the Commercial Club in Norristown. 

 

Ed spent his free time with family and friends, enjoyed golfing, and was a devoted and practicing parishioner of St. Eleanor’s Catholic Church. Ed brought his wit, humor, deep sincerity, commitment, and service to all that he did and to all that were blessed to have known him.

 

Ed was predeceased by his parents, his stepfather Patrick O’Hara, his beloved uncle Horace Rambo, twin sister Catherine McDade Slough and his infant son John Patrick.

 

Ed is survived by; his wife of 47 years Elizabeth Smith McDade , Brothers Michael (Judy) of Lewis, DE and Paul  (Joan) of Villages, FL daughter Kristy (Andrew) Curtis, of Pennsburg, PA son Brian (Susan) McDade of West Norriton, Grandsons Tyler (Charlotte) Sacks,  Brett Sacks, Connor Sacks, and Great-Granddaughter Gabriella Sacks, and those extended family and friends, colleagues, and communities who gathered, surrounded, and supported him until the end.  

 

All are invited to call on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Moore, Snear & Ruggiero Funeral Home, 224 W. Main St., Trappe, PA 19426.  A Masonic Service will begin at 7:30 PM in the Funeral Home. 

 

A second visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023 in St. Eleanor Church, 647 Locust St., Collegeville, PA 19426 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM.  A Funeral Mass will be offered Friday morning at 11:00 AM in St. Eleanor Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you reflect upon your shared experiences with Ed, then donate to the Lower Providence Police Association; 100 Park Lane Drive, Eagleville, PA 19403 so that the spirit and legacy of Edward P. McDade shall carry on.
